At around 2k rpm the turbo howls/whistles, or maybe a boost leak. It does slightly improve when engine is warmer, but the sound is still there both on cold and warm engine. It can eventually lead to the turbo failing. If a boost leak test shows there's no leak, I'd start to get worried at that point. My 2011 BMW 335ix n55.
