Thursday October 11th, 2012 | Leave a comment I intended to write one article around this matter last month but until now I still can’t find enough time to make full references on this topic; Of course, my though on this matter should be now partially published since it would be a starter. As you might already notice that most recently in this year, more and more scam, fraud or harassment actions are happening in Cambodia through Internet usage on social networks, email messages or even on blogs or websites. Those actions, people around the world called “Cyber Crime” or “Computer Crime” which is not so many people in Cambodia aware or learning this word. Last year in 2011 at Barcamp Phnom Penh 4 event, there was a related topic to cyber crime brought into the panel discussion, led session by Mr. Bormey Chanthong that came with following questions: To keep our cyber-world safe, we have to stop cyber-crime. What’s cyber-world What’s is cyber-crime? How to be safe? All of the questions will be answered in this session. Let’s start today for a safer cyber-world. [Barcamp PP4] Of course, that was an introduction of a new topic to the community and now in 2012, we can see, people broadcasting wrong information through facebook such as recently related to government and some politicians’ documents, many fake images publishing in order to fear people or confusing people that lead them into wrong decision, losing time and money or even involving to republish or share to others as well. Do you think we should allow those actions continue to happen as now? It’s time to change! but how we could change this behavior and who should start it now? According to the wikipedia, Computer crime refers to any crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target. Netcrime refers to criminal exploitation of the Internet. Cybercrimes are defined as: “Offences that are committed against individuals or groups of individuals with a criminal motive to intentionally harm the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm to the victim directly or indirectly, using modern telecommunication networks such as Internet (Chat rooms, emails, notice boards and groups) and mobile phones (SMS/MMS)”. That would be a lawsuit for that and a law should be makeup but as individual, we have to aware and be careful with information we cross around and DO NOT SHARE if you are not sure if they are a right information.
